Sustainable development work in the EU

The European Union is committed to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Work is being carried out, for example, through the European Semester, and sustainable development has been integrated into the European Commission's work programme for better regulation, which is a key tool in the preparation of legislative proposals.

The work is carried out in cooperation with the Member States. The Sustainable Development Goals are an integral part of the political guidelines of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and are at the heart of policies in all areas, both internally and externally.

The EU reported on its work on sustainable development to the UN for the first time in 2023. The report was prepared under the leadership of the European Commission and its statistical data were produced by Eurostat. The Member States participated in the preparation of the report through workshops organised for the Council of the European Union's 2030 Agenda working Group. European Economic and Social Committee was responsible for involving stakeholders in the preparation of the report.
