Raimo Antila appointed as Director General of the Department for Work and Gender Equality

On Thursday, 26 October, the Finnish Government appointed Raimo Antila as Director General of the Department for Work and Gender Equality at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

Mr Antila will start in his new duties on 1 December 2017. The appointment is for a fixed period until 30 December 2022.

Mr Antila has held the position of Director of Field Operations in the Department for Occupational Safety and Health at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health since 2014. From the start of October 2017 he has served as the temporary Director General of the Department for Work and Gender Equality. Mr Antila has also worked as Environmental and Safety Manager and Risk Management Manager at Destia Ltd in 2008–2018 and its predecessor the Finnish Road Enterprise in 2001–2007. He holds the degree of Master of Science in Technology.

The Department for Work and Gender Equality steers the supervision and administration of occupational safety and health, prepares and develops legislation and policies on occupational safety and health and conducts international cooperation in the field of occupational safety and health. In addition, the Department prepares and develops the Government’s gender equality policy and gender equality legislation and promotes equality between the genders.

A total of 21 persons applied for the post of Director General of the Department for Work and Gender Equality.
