Initiation of the International Implementation of Agenda2030

The implementation of Agenda2030 was launched on 1 January 2016. The progress of the implementation will be monitored and reviewed on the global, regional and national levels. The UN High-Level Political Forum has a key role in the monitoring of the implementation on international level. It is important to involve also other central UN organisations in the implementation. The final Agenda2030 document encourages all Member States to draw up an ambitious national implementation plan and to regularly review the progress of the implementation. The European Union should also show leadership in not only the implementation but also in the follow-up, monitoring, review and reporting related to the implementation.

High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

The UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is a key political actor globally following up and reviewing sustainable development issues. The Forum was established in the Rio+20 Conference in June 2012, and it replaces the earlier UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD). HLPF is the central UN platform for the global follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted in September 2015.

The Forum meets every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the General Assembly (UNGA) and every year under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Finland is one of the first countries to report on its plans concerning the implementation of Agenda2030 in the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July 2016.
